Ice Breakers with Saivya Chauhan (Founder and CEO, Blitz)

May 7, 2024

Saivya Chauhan is the founder and CEO of Blitz, an Indonesia-founded EV logistic enabler. Blitz allows enterprises from various industries such as eCommerce and F&B to white label their logistics and EV telematics platform to perform instant last mile deliveries. They recently raised a seed extension round.

Before Blitz, he worked as a mechanical design engineer at Hyperloop, designing high speed passenger pods that magnetically levitate and travel in enclosed vacuum tubes faster than any commercial airliner.

👋🏼  How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

I am an e-scooter delivery driver. Just kidding. I manage a team of highly driven and motivated entrepreneurs who then in turn manage thousands of e-scooter delivery drivers to ensure that your late night Domino's Pizza or Lazada order arrives on time!

🧐  What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

I enjoy the thrill of adventure sports—I’ve been scuba diving since I was 7—and as a consequence of this addiction have torn quite a few ligaments, like my shoulders, knees, and ankles over the years doing one thing or another.

Most recently picked up Brazilian Jujitsu and proceeded to tear both of my knees in the process. Though, I’ve currently recovered and been injury-free for more than 6 months which is a new record.

🏆  What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

Seeing the positive impact on my driver's lives.

I started my company because I noticed gig workers during COVID were being predatorily taken advantage of by their employers and as a result these folks had very low take home incomes.

I set out to change this by creating a logistics company that specifically focused on improving gig working driver incomes. Rather than flooding the market with more drivers, we focus on maximizing the efficiency of each one, ensuring they receive more deliveries and thereby higher income .

Thus, the most significant achievement of my career has been the substantial increase in earnings for the thousands of drivers who deliver for Blitz, positively transforming their lives and the well-being of their families.

We have also made it possible for our drivers to own electric scooters by financing them, which is a significant milestone for many who are new to gig work and have never previously owned or afforded a vehicle.

🔍  What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?

To absolutely no surprise to anyone, logistics! We as a society are going through a hugely transformative phase, living in the "now economy". Everyone wants everything now.

Whether it’s movies (Netflix), food (DoorDash), taxis (Uber), online shopping (Amazon Prime), we have such short attention spans these days that instant gratification is what drives consumerism and consumer habits. So naturally the company which can figure out true instant deliveries will win this space. We intend to be that company.

💼  What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

As a solo founder, my advice to anyone looking to be an entrepreneur is: Don't do it alone—have at least one co-founder.

When the highs are high, it's easy to fly alone. But it's the low moments that take an absolute toll on you when you don't have anyone to share the burden with.

I've been blessed with a stellar team that is now building Blitz with me, but in the early days it was far too rough doing it all alone. Would not recommend it to anyone!

🗣  What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?

The Ponzi Scheme that has been the VC/Startup ecosystem for the past 2 decades!

🎥  What's your favorite movie/TV show?

Has to be Succession—I never thought I'd ever care for billionaires and their far-from-reality problems

🍨  What's your go-to ice cream flavor?

Macadamia Nut!
