$1.3M for fun coding classes that'll make your kids love learning

Strive

Got kids? You'll want to sign them up for Strive. They've just raised a $1.3M seed, and they're teaching kids coding through fun, personalized and engaging classes that'll make them love learning!

  • Founded in 2020, they've taught 1k children and trained 60 teachers.
  • They're building the go-to platform to teach kids STEM classes globally through coding classes.

Investor check. The round was led by Y Combinator. Goodwater Capital, Mastercard Asia and Soma Capital also joined in!

  • 👼🏻: KP Balaraj (Co-founder, Sequoia India), Jamie Beaton (CEO, Crimson Education), Calvin French-Owen (Co-founder, Segment).
  • They joined Y Combinator's S21 batch.

🤨 Why it matters

While more schools teach coding now, traditional teaching styles are boring, frustrating and ineffective for kids.

  • It's the 21st century! Plus, with the growth of AI and tech, teaching students how to think critically for themselves is key — instead of traditional memorization and test-focused teaching styles.

😎 Too cool for (regular) school

They offer 1:1 classes for kids between eight to 16 years old. But thankfully, this is where their similarities with other coding classes end.

  • They teach through the active learning method, making classes both engaging and effective.

It starts with the teacher. Strive's teachers aren't just highly qualified — they're great at engaging with students, breaking down problems (nope, not giving out answers) and motivating them.

  • They act as guides that ask questions and assist students whenever needed, letting students problem-solve, think critically and take the lead in their learning.

Hyper-personalized. Zero boring or irrelevant projects! Your kids will learn by building real-world projects that match their interests! Oh, and everything's at the right pace and depth based on their current skill level.

  • Everything's visual. They can code a game like pong, apps, math simulations or physics simulations — and instantly see their progress.

💰 What's with $$$?

They'll develop their code editor, add new content like additional concepts and more types of curriculum personalized to more kids' interests, improve their teaching training and look for new ways to test user abilities.

See you soon. They'll be expanding across Asia and targeting the 3.7M students in international schools!
