November 15, 2022
AI Communis

Speaking your language. Say hi to AI Communis! This Singapore-based startup instantly generates transcripts, subtitles and translations for audio and video content. Now, they've just raised a $1.3M seed.

  • Founded in December 2021, they have over 90,000 users across 200 countries.

Investor check. Todai IPC (University of Tokyo's VC arm) led the round. Several Japanese VC funds and angel investors also joined in.

🗣 Talk to me, baby

They have their own Automated Speech Recognition Engine (ASR). It's basically an AI-powered and automated transcription service you can use for your business needs.

Forget the manual work! They also offer Auris AI, an AI-powered platform that automatically creates transcripts and subtitles for you based on your audio and video files. Oh, and they're building it to be so good — you won't even need to proofread the work.

  • It can translate between English and other languages, especially English languages like Bahasa Indonesia, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese.

With their ASR tech, Auris can specialize in Asian languages by training it on their clients' audio data to increase accuracy up to over 90% through recognizing industry jargon and accents.

  • This can also help drive down operating costs to make it more affordable.

🧠 Why it matters

Transcribing and subtitling content is already a major pain! But translating it is even tougher — until Auris AI came in. Tech like Auris allows Asian content to be accessible to the world (and makes foreign content more accessible to Asians,) filling a huge gap.

  • How? By making accurate translations quick and affordable.

This makes it super accessible for content creators and media companies to reach a wider global audience by translating their content.

  • FYI, he's the most-subscribed Youtuber. American Youtuber MrBeast does this well. Apart from his main English-speaking channels, he has separate channels where his original videos are dubbed/subbed into different languages, like Spanish and Russian. And yes, it brings in ton of $$$!

🤔 What's next?

They'll be doubling down on product and scaling their Asia operations.

  • They'll be strengthening outreach to global content creators and multi-channel networks, so they can reach a wider audience.
  • They'll also be promoting their service to freelance and full-time content creators in Southeast Asia.
