$2.85M to build Disney+ for Muslim kids

We can all agree that kids can't watch all the same shows we watch — that's why Disney+ for kids and Netflix for kids exist.

🤔 But what about Muslim kids?

Besides being safe and kid-friendly, Muslim parents want the shows their kids watch to share the same Islamic values and virtues they teach at home.

That's where Durioo comes in — this Malaysian startup has launched Disney+ for Muslim kids. Oh, and they've just raised a $2.85M seed co-led by Y Combinator and Gobi Partners.

  • Founded in 2022, they have over 22,000 paid subscribers inside and outside Malaysia, with 39% MoM growth within the past half year.
  • They have over Durioo+ Originals and licensed content.
  • Their MRR has grown 30% MoM.

👦🏻 Just for (Muslim) kids

They're here to produce, co-produce and license fun and entertaining content with good values, virtues and Islamic teachings.

  • Muslims make up the second-largest religious group in the world — representing a massive market for content designed for Muslim kids.
  • They've signed over 27 strategic partnerships with corporations, government agencies, NGOs and SMEs to grow Durioo+'s viewership and strengthen Malaysia's digital creative ecosystem.

The beginning. They're starting with high-quality cartoons, films, songs, videos and shows on their streaming platform, Durioo+!

  • They've produced over 20 Durioo+ Originals programs (from entertaining cartoons to edutainment live-action content) and licensed 4,500 episodes of well-known shows like Baby Shark, Upin & Ipin, and more.
  • They charge subscriptions that cost $7.99 monthly or $79.99 yearly.

🌏 Taking on the world

Over the next five years, they'll push to diversify and widen their viewership globally to markets like the US, UK, MENA, Indonesia, Europe and other South Asian countries.

  • The goal is 100,000 subscribers this year and 1M subscribers by 2026!

The strategy? They'll create more original content and launch Durioo Games with collaborations with local and foreign animation studios, production houses, and game companies!
