95% of lithium-ion batteries end up in landfills because they're expensive, slow and tough to recycle. But Green Li-ion's here to change that!
This Singapore-based startup just powered up with a $20.5M Pre-Series B. Their tech fully recycles used lithium-ion batteries, making them ready to be made into brand-new batteries!
Investor check. Trirec led the round. Banpu Next, Equinor Ventures, EDP Ventures, Envisioning Partners, SOSV, Energy Revolution Ventures, Dream Project Incubators Energy Ventures, Entrepreneur First, TES, LiNiCo, Decarbonization Consortium, IS Dongseo, MB Energy Partners and GS holdings also joined in!
🪫 Dead batteries find new lives
Green Li-ion builds battery recycling tech and processors for lithium-ion (aka, Li-ion) batteries.
Their battery processors are plug-and-play solutions for recycling and manufacturing plants. They're the size of a small house but can easily be shipped on flatbed trucks — each can process four to six metric tons of dead batteries per day (FYI, this is equivalent to 20 EV batteries or 70,000 iPhones)!
By recycling the batteries, they create more materials for manufacturers to use!
🧐 Why should we care?
Global demand for battery metals is at record highs! There's a global shortage, and everyone oh-so-desperately needs more, especially more lithium.
Things like your iPhone and laptop use lithium-ion batteries. But perhaps more importantly, EVs use lithium-ion, and the shortage can slap an additional $1,000 to the cost of your EV — making them less accessible and keeping the world away from its lower-emissions goals.
🚀 Next up
They'll be scaling up their manufacturing to deliver 50 units of their battery processors each year to help more recyclers launch commercially viable lithium-ion recycling and re-manufacturing operations.
