Here’s Loom Carbon! They’re a Singaporean startup that transforms difficult-to-recycle textiles into high-value circular materials using their pyrolysis technology.

Now, they’ve just raised $300K!

Investor check. The Singapore Fashion Council invested as part of its inaugural accelerator program, The Bridge Fashion Innovator Scale Up.

  • Loom Carbon will receive mentorship, investment readiness support, and access to a network of investors, corporate partners, and government stakeholders.
  • They’ll also access pilot opportunities across Singapore and SEA.

🗑️ The textile problem

Every year, the textile sector produces 2% to 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions and contributes 9% of microplastic pollution flowing into the ocean.

  • Because of this, brands are increasingly mandated to decarbonize and take on extended producer responsibility.
  • Just recently, to reduce fashion waste, the EU passed a law requiring member states to set up separate textile waste collection from the start of 2025.

⬛ It’s a fashion yes

Loom Carbon uses a science-led approach to apply proven pyrolysis technology to textile waste.

  • In pyrolysis, materials are heated to high temperatures in an area without oxygen, producing gases, oil, and charcoal.
  • Their process, which eliminates PFAS and microplastics, turns difficult-to-recycle textile waste into bio black and renewable oil.

Bio black. Their waste-derived bio black is engineered for fashion and performance fabrics and can add UV resistance, durability, and odor control to fabrics.

Renewable oil. Their renewable oil is ideal for the polyester precursor application process and helps drive decarbonization across textile production, transport, and global supply chains.

👕 What the future holds?

Loom Carbon is looking to commission their first commercial plant in Singapore, which they expect to process 20K tons of textile waste annually.

  • They’re also collaborating with leading research and academic institutions in Singapore, the US, and South Africa.
