June 16, 2022
Vidio

What're you watching? Here's Vidio. They're the largest Indonesian over-the-top (OTT) video platform and just raised $45M!

  • They're like Indonesia's Netflix, but even more complete with a mix of global and local content.
  • OTT conmsumption in Indonesia is the highest in SEA, with Indonesians consuming 3.5B hours of content a month.

Who cashed in? Sinar Mas Group, Grab and Indonesian football club Bali United.

  • They were once entirely owned by Emtek Group under the mass media company Surya Citra Media.
  • They raised their first round of external funding last year — a $150M round — that shot their valuation up to around $900M.

🎬 Lights, camera, action!

Founded in 2014, Vidio claims to be the most complete streaming platform in the country, with over 1M different movies, series and other entertainment.

Anime? Kids' shows? Cheesy dramas? They've got movies, TV shows and live content from all over the world but also double down on bringing in a ton of local Indonesian content. There's something for everyone.

Just between you and me. Their strategy? Growing their collection of exclusive Vidio Original Series and exclusive contracts.

  • Home run? They're heavy on sports, with exclusive rights to broadcast the World Cup and the English Premier League.

🍿 Coming soon

Vidio will be collaborating with their strategic investors, like Grab and Sinar Mas (through subsidiaries like their telco Smartfren and internet provider MyRepublic).

On the product side, they'll be releasing more premium content like more local original series and dramas. Plus, they'll be improving the features and quality of the Vidio platform.
