Get it fresh with Secai Marche. This Japan-based startup is building a fresh food supply chain in SEA by connecting farmers and F&B businesses.

  • They raised their Series A last year.
  • And now? They just won a $4M grant from the Japanese government!

Some more detail. They received the $$$ from Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry as part of its FY2023 Supplementary “Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation Program Grant”.

🍓 Farmer-direct platform

People in the food business know how hard it can be to find a reliable supplier of fresh, local, and imported produce.

Sourcing from different farmers? Minimum orders making it difficult to manage supplies?

  • Secai Marche is a one-stop farmer-direct platform that is connected with farmers in Malaysia, Japan, and more!
  • Oh, and they don’t have minimum order requirements.

Run the numbers. They have a network of 450 producers. Oh, and they also serve 1.7K clients in the high-end segment in Malaysia.

  • With the grant, they’ll be able to expand to serve mid-level customers.

🥦 What’s with the $$$?

They’ll accelerate the development of their fresh food infrastructure in Malaysia and Singapore.

  • They’re also building a new cold-chain facility in Selangor, Malaysia!
  • Plus, they’re looking to leverage AI for demand forecasting, automated picking, and delivery routing.
