$500K for Singapore’s Clairva to represent the Global South through data

Image from Clairva

Represent! Clairva is a Singapore-headquartered company that builds licensed, high-quality datasets from regions such as SEA and the wider Global South.

  • Now, they’ve just raised a $500K pre-seed round.

Investor check. Venture Catalysts led the round through their angel network.

  • Suraj Nalin (co-founder & ex-CTO, PlaySimple Games), Durgesh Kaushik (co-founder, Modveon), and other strategic investors across SEA and India joined in.

🏃🏼 In the real world

For AI models to understand the real world, they need real-world data. And that’s where Clairva comes in.

  • They provide AI labs, robotics teams, world models, and enterprise AI teams with licensed, provenance-backed multimodal datasets from India, Southeast Asia, and the wider Global South.

🌐 Why this matters

With their datasets, AI models don’t just scrape data about the Global South from the web, but also from the real world.

  • Compared to other regions, global models aren’t as well-versed in the Global South.
  • Plus, for Clairva, AI models also need information on how people, objects, spaces (and more factors) behave in the physical world.

How it works

Clairva works with content owners, production houses, studios, archives, institutions, and contributor networks to source, license, and structure real-world data for AI training.

  • They’re also developing proprietary technology and internal IP across dataset ingestion, rights and provenance tracking, automated enrichment, metadata generation, action and object tagging, temporal segmentation, quality validation, and dataset packaging.

🧐 What’s in store

They’ll use the $$$ to expand their licensed data supply network, deepen their enrichment and validation, strengthen their data operations, and open commercial engagements with global AI customers.

Watch out. Clairva plans to raise a $5M seed round later this year.
