Here’s Virdalis. They’re a Singapore-based company developing protein from duckweed (Wolffia globosa) for the animal feed industry.

  • Now, they’ve just raised a $700K pre-seed.
  • If you’ve kept freshwater fish in a planted tank, you have probably had duckweed in your fish tank!

Investor check. Wavemaker Impact led the round.

🌱 Get that protein

A majority of the world’s feed protein is produced in a limited number of countries, forcing most countries to import it.

The problem? This exposes the supply chain to volatility, geopolitical disruptions, and even food security risks.

  • For Virdalis, the solution is creating an alternative feed protein source that countries can produce on their own.

🐖 The protein demand

Virdalis is developing cultivation systems, processing technologies, and a data-driven production platform to produce duckweed-based feed protein.

  • Their systems enable countries to produce large-scale domestic feed protein without relying on imports.
  • Duckweed-based feed protein also does not require arable land, water availability, or specific climate conditions.

💰 What’s with the $$$?

They’ll use the fresh capital to scale pilot production systems, expand their technical team, and build commercial partnerships with feed manufacturers across SEA.
