A $113M investment in a crypto investment app

June 8, 2022
Pintu

Say hey to Pintu! This Indonesian startup is a crypto wallet and investment app. But they've just gotten a pretty massive investment themselves — a $113M Series B! (Yup, you read that right.)

  • They've grown from 500,000 users in May 2021 to over 4M now.
  • They're focused on first-time retail investors, typically millennials and Gen Z.

Who cashed in? Intudo Ventures, Lightspeed Venture Partners, Pantera Capital and Northstar Group joined in.

🤑 Getting into Pintu

Trade. Apart from storing, withdrawing and sending crypto, you can buy and sell crypto on Pintu!

  • They offer over 60 different crypto assets like cryptocurrencies and tokens.

Earn. Basically a savings app for crypto, their DeFi offering allows you to save certain crypto and earn hourly interest. Top up or cash out anytime!

  • Earn up to 15% yearly in annual percentage yield (APY).

Stake. You can stake their Pintu token to earn interest and get exclusive benefits on the Pintu app, like higher commission bonuses for referrals and higher earn interests (APY).

Learn. They also have Pintu Academy, which covers everything from beginner content and getting started to advanced crypto concepts.

🤓 Why it matters

12M people in Indonesia actively invest in crypto, while only 7M invest in domestic stocks.

  • While 12M sounds huge, it's only 4% of the country's population— there's lots of room for growth.
  • For a ton of Indonesians, crypto is their first experience with investing, instead of the traditional stocks or mutual funds.

💰 What's with the $$$?

They'll be adding more crypto assets and launching new features. Plus, they'll be expanding their Pintu Academy program and growing the team further.
