Indonesia’s going to paint the town green! A recent joint report from AC Ventures and BCG said that the country has a major role to play in transforming into a green growth economy.

  • They valued the green growth opportunity at $400B!
  • Extra Scoop: Green growth means sustainable economic progress.

➕ Run the numbers!

Indonesia is the fourth largest global greenhouse gas (GHG) emitter, so they’ve got a lot at stake here. But where do you start creating the most impact?

The report highlights three focus areas:

  • Strategy and professional services, solutions that optimize GHG intensity, and emission offsetting.

🗺️ What’s the roadmap?

Boosting green financing, developing supportive regulatory frameworks, and nurturing green talents will help Indonesia fully leverage this opportunity.

  • The local government is actually doing some of these things already!
  • Indonesia started the National Talent Management body to develop and retain green talent. Oh, and the OJK is currently developing their sustainable finance practices!

Startups and SMEs can lend a hand in levelling up the local green growth potential, said the report.

Last June, Indonesia’s first climate tech hub was launched by Daya Selaras Group and climate tech venture builder Ecoxyztem.

Some other key startup players in the ecosystem include:

  • 🧮 FairAtmos. They help build carbon credit projects in Indonesia with their funding and network support.
  • 🚮 Waste4Change. A circular waste management startup that manages 8K tons of waste yearly.
  • 🌞 Xurya. They help companies transition to solar energy without major upfront costs.
