Alternō raises $1.5M seed for clean energy in agriculture

April 2, 2024

A better alternative. This is Alternō, a Vietnamese startup that reduces carbon emissions in agriculture. Oh, and they’ve just raised a $1.5M seed!

Investor check. The Radical Fund and Touchstone Partners co-led the round. Antler, Impact Square, and Glocalinc joined in.

️‍🔥 Getting hot in here

When it comes to processing agricultural products, there’s a lot of drying, warming, and heating involved. But the good old energy sources ain’t enough!

  • Some examples? Dried mangoes, dried tea, and dried herbs.

Now, there’s higher demand for clean, sustainable, and affordable energy solutions in agriculture—especially with extreme climate change.

🤩 Something new

That’s why Alternō’s here! They’ve got a patented thermal energy storage solution that’s designed for agricultural applications, from drying and warming to heating.

  • Sand battery tech. They use insulated sand with custom heat-conducting tubes.
  • It’s a first-of-a-kind (FOAK) thermal battery and is the only low-duration thermal energy storage (LDTES) startup in Southeast Asia addressing the sector.

Wallet-friendly. This tech allows you to transition to low-carbon agricultural practices without spending a ton of $$$—compared to the typical conventional grid energy and lithium-ion batteries available.
