Buyo says bye to bad plastics with their waste-based plastic alternatives

May 16, 2023

Check out Buyo! This Vietnamese startup creates biodegradable plastics from biowaste and plant-based materials. Now, they’ve just raised a pre-seed.

Investor check. Family office Aldebaran Capital led the round. Antler and other investors also joined in!

💻 It’s all in the tech

Most bioplastic firms use starch. But Buyo’s different! Their proprietary tech converts waste (specifically, biowaste from agriculture and food materials) into bioplastic. This also helps eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and water contamination.

  • Their biodegradable plastics leave zero trace in the environment. (FYI, plastics could take 500 years or more to degrade in a landfill!)
  • Stay safe! Their products are fully and naturally degradable, safe for human health and have minimal carbon footprints.

Their products are designed for different use cases, like flexible packaging, rigid packaging and medical use.

  • They focus on B2B clients.

♻️ The first step

They’re starting by supplying the material used in flexible packaging like edible food wrapping.

  • What’s in the pipeline? Applications in the cosmetic, medical and textile industries.

💰 What’s with the $$$?

They’re building a pilot-scale production site in Vietnam before they target clients in Europe and North America. Oh, and they’ve also filed a patent and are working to get international testing certificates!

  • Hi, VCs! They’ll be kicking off their next funding round by Q2 2024.
