Coding for everyone?

November 17, 2021
MindX

Vietnamese edtech startup MindX just raised a $3M Series A, led by Wavemaker Partners. It's a coding school that teaches everyone, from kids coding for the first time to professionals looking for a new tech role.

  • It has been profitable for the past six years.
  • It has taught over 25,000 students and has seen a 1,000% growth in YoY enrollment as of Sept. 2021.
  • With 200 partner companies, its alumni have gone to work at companies like Google, Amazon and Shopee.

Back to the source

Founded in 2015 as a non-profit where the founders taught part-time coding classes, MindX now has an online platform and 13 physical locations.

What's new? Unlike MindX, most coding schools focus on short-term courses (aka, bootcamps) for people to upskill and land a tech job right after.

  • MindX offers courses that last one year to 10 years for everyone from kids to adults.
  • If your younger sister loves to code and wants to be a software engineer, she can join a 6-year course to boost her skills.
  • It has a 100% placement rate for job-seeking graduates in Vietnam and 55% in Singapore.

👉 What's with the $$$?

For its short courses for students who plan to land a job after the course, MindX is looking to launch Income Share Agreements (ISAs), a popular payment option among coding bootcamps.

  • To remove risk, students pay nothing upfront and only pay for their tuition after getting hired.
  • It's for students with 1-2 years of software engineering experience looking to land an overseas job.

Apart from expanding to reach students outside the metro, it'll also be closing more foreign partner companies from Singapore, Japan and the US.

  • It'll also be building blockchain tech to automate the application and interviewing process between alumni and companies that hire them.
