DAOs, Blockchain and an SEA takeover?

Yield Guild Games

Yield Guild Games Southeast Asia (YGG SEA) just raised $15M across two funding rounds. YGG SEA is a subDAO of the Philippine blockchain gaming startup Yield Guild Games.

Who cashed in? The latest round includes Bukalapak, Animoca Brands, Crypto.com Capital, Hashed Bank BRI's Sembrani Kiqani and more.

🧠 All about DAOs

The next hottest web3 concept after the NFT is the DAO. As told by YGG, it's a digital organization where all members have ownership. Its main function is to automate carrying out governance decisions its members vote on.

Power. All members get to vote on business and governance decisions instead of traditional systems where decision-making power is limited to a few people.

Transparency. Since all business decisions are enacted on the blockchain, these cannot be broken or altered.

🧐 YGG DAO Fast Facts

  • To be a member of the YGG DAO, you must earn YGG governance tokens.
  • There will be five categories of token holders: founders, advisors, treasury, investors and community.
  • Up to 45% of YGG tokens will be for community members to make sure the community is the focus of the DAO.
  • It is an all-inclusive economy overseeing its subDAOs.

Now, what's a subDAO? SubDAOs like YGG SEA are like company subsidiaries. Each of YGG's subDAOs is customized to focus on specific activities or assets of a particular game. And like a subsidiary, each subDAO contributes earnings to the DAO and can borrow from the YGG treasury.

  • A region-specific subDAO: YGG SEA
  • A game-specific subDAO: Axie Infinity, Zed Run

Each subDAO brings more efficiency because of local expertise and localized operations and streamlining processes that may vary game-to-game. Plus, also create a more tight-knit sense of community.

🤩 Why it matters

Like how it was successful in the Philippines, YGG wants to expand its local-first approach to the rest of SEA (and soon, the world). YGG SEA will begin with Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand.

  • It will support locally developed play-to-earn games in each country and acquire game assets to build its player base.
