Ice Breakers

Ice Breakers with Christopher Ngoi (Chief Strategy and Business Officer, Libeara)

June 17, 2025

Christopher Ngoi is the Chief Strategy and Business Officer of Libeara, a tokenisation startup that focuses on making investing in tokenised securities accessible to everyone.

Libeara aims to significantly enhance financial inclusion for citizens worldwide.

👋🏼  How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

At Libeara, I work at the intersection of finance and Web3 tech, helping institutions bring traditional assets—like funds or bonds—onto modern infrastructure using blockchain.

If that sounds complicated, think of it this way: I help make financial products easier to issue, manage, and move—without the usual paperwork, middlemen, or 3-week processing times.

In short, I help finance catch up to the 21st century.

🧐  What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

A big part of my role is working with legal, compliance, operations, and external partners to unpack concerns, rewrite legacy processes, and basically de-risk innovation.

The blockchain part is usually the most stable piece. It's the human systems—old habits, governance structures, jurisdictional concerns—that need the most debugging.

🏆  What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

The biggest highlight so far has been seeing one of our tokenized fund structures go live with a major institutional client—fully approved, fully operational, and compliant across multiple jurisdictions.

It was the culmination of months of cross-functional work: legal structuring, tech buildout, stakeholder alignment, and regulatory navigation.

For a space often filled with prototypes and whitepapers, shipping something real at scale—and watching capital flow through it—felt like a rare and defining moment.

🔍  What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?

The trend I’m watching closely is the rise of collateralization in asset tokenization, and the broader implications it has for financial access and efficiency.

This isn’t just about efficiency; it’s about inclusion. Tokenized collateral could let a broader set of individuals access credit markets and wealth-building tools that were historically out of reach.

It’s one of the most meaningful—and potentially transformative—developments in the space.

💼  What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Just showing up consistently, sharing what you're learning, and connecting with people in the space can open more doors than you’d expect.

You don’t need to be a thought leader—just be visible, be curious, and don’t overthink it.

🗣  What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?

Emerging ideas, trends, and technology.

🎥  What's your favorite movie/TV show?

Seinfeld—a show about nothing.

🍨  What's your go-to ice cream flavor?

Midnight chocolate.
