Bayu Eka Putra serves as the co-founder and COO of Mimin, a platform that enables businesses to create chat journeys for their customers from initial interactions to transactions, all through their preferred chat platforms.
They’re backed by the Salim Group from Indonesia and raised their seed round earlier this year.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
Building team and managing day-to-day marketing & operations of the company.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
This journey of entrepreneurship allows me to explore new things.
Besides Mimin, I am currently running my own noodle shop in Indonesia and I am also an Executive MBA Candidate at SMU. What a random combination, isn't it?
Building my own company pushes me to get out of my comfort zone and to try something that I've never done before—from becoming a host for our social media content to editing videos.
For someone with a management and strategic background, learning the to-dos really benefited me as an individual and helped me to build my team better.
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
I have been working in various industries, from banking to FMCG, and have held multiple roles, from financial analyst to GM of Marketing and Sales. All of these experiences have contributed to shaping the person I am today.
Every career journey had its own highlight, but for Mimin—I am truly excited that we have managed to establish our presence in 3 different countries, all done within the past year.
🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?
Conversational AI is definitely a space to watch as not only the technology evolves, but the application of it as well.
Rather than cool, fancy technology, businesses now are trying to see how it can actually be used for the benefit of the company.
Businesses are shaping the 5W1H of Conversational AI for their company and I believe this trend will still continue for the next few years.
💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
Don't focus too much on selling the fanciness and the coolness of the new technology—find a concrete, tangible solution on how the technology can actually help to solve problems that businesses are facing.
🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?
Games and food. Well, we talked about work for hours every day, so these are the 'outside working hours' topics that kept me sane.
🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?
One of my favorite TV shows was Designated Survivor. I love smart shows, the ones that are intense and keep you thinking the whole episode.
🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?
I don't take ice cream, but if I have to choose, mango or oranges!
