Ice Breakers

Ice Breakers with Christin Nataly (Enterprise Sales Director for Asia-Pacific and Japan, SingleStore)

June 6, 2025

Christin Nataly is the Enterprise Sales Director for APJ (Asia Pacific and Japan) at SingleStore, a modern real-time database company helping businesses simplify their data architecture for speed, scale, and AI readiness.

She works closely with leading enterprises and startups across Asia to drive transformation and AI adoption, drawing on her experience at companies like Oracle, Adobe, and Salesforce (Tableau).

👋🏼  How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

I help businesses make faster, smarter decisions with SingleStore by simplifying their data strategy.

In a world where companies are flooded with data, I offers a real-time platform that delivers the speed for instant insights, the scale to grow effortlessly, and the simplicity to reduce complexity and cost, while being fully ready for enterprise AI.

My role is to position SingleStore as a strategic solution that enables customers to move faster, stay competitive, and innovate with confidence.

🧐  What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

While I work in tech and focus on databases, what I really do is help customers connect the dots between their business challenges and how data can become a competitive advantage.

Whether it's a bank fighting fraud in real time or a retailer scaling AI-driven personalization, I translate complex technology into clear business value.

It’s less about technical specs and more about shaping a vision that resonates with the C-suite.

🏆  What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

The biggest highlight of my career so far has been helping customers power their real-time analytics and AI initiatives supporting leading organizations like Kakao, Samsung, LG Innotek, Posco, and K Bank in South Korea, Nikkei in Japan, and Erajaya, BRI Insurance, Ensign Infosecurity, AIRR Labs, and 99.co across Southeast Asia.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to partner with both enterprises and startups, guiding them through their data modernization journey and driving meaningful transformation.

🔍  What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?

One startup trend I'm closely watching in 2025 is the rise of vertical AI platforms, startups that combine deep industry expertise with AI to deliver domain-specific solutions.

These companies are moving beyond generic AI tools to offer tailored applications in sectors like healthcare, finance, logistics, marketing, customer support, and retail, providing immediate business value and faster adoption.

This approach aligns with the broader shift towards industry-specific SaaS and reflects a growing demand for AI solutions that are not only powerful but also contextually relevant and easy to integrate into existing workflows.

It's exciting to see how these focused innovations are driving real transformation across various industries.

💼  What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

If you're starting out in the data and AI space, especially building an AI platform, my advice is to invest early in a strong data foundation.

Many teams focus heavily on models, but the real differentiator often lies in how fast and effectively you can access and process your data.

Choose a data architecture that supports real-time insights, scales as you grow, and keeps things simple so you’re not spending more time managing complexity than building value.

The most successful AI platforms I’ve seen are the ones that get this right from the beginning.

🗣  What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?

I get genuinely excited talking about data and AI. What fascinates me is how data has become the foundation for everything, from smarter decision-making to hyper-personalized experiences.

And with AI, we’re no longer just analyzing the past, we’re predicting, generating, and adapting in real time.

The pace of change is incredible, and every conversation feels like an opportunity to imagine what’s possible next.

🎥  What's your favorite movie/TV show?

Air, Moneyball, The Big Short, and The Wolf of Wall Street, etc. I’m drawn to stories where bold ideas, data-driven decisions, and unconventional thinking disrupt entire industries.

Whether it's transforming sports, challenging financial systems, or pushing the limits of ambition, these films remind me of the power of insight, resilience, and taking risks, something I relate to deeply in my world.

They're not just entertaining, they're fuel for motivation.

🍨  What's your go-to ice cream flavor?

Forever mango at Gelatissimo, no questions asked! And when I’m at Venchi, it’s all about hazelnut and banana—creamy, nutty perfection every time.
