Dustin Onghanseng is the founder of uHoo, an environmental data platform for homes and buildings to improve health, decarbonize and enhance ESG.

Prior to founding uHoo, Dustin was a management consultant focused on go-to-market strategy and business development and helped various growth-stage startups raise almost US$ 100M in funding.

👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

We build technology to help people see the air they breathe.

🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

I believe that sustainability starts with our own behavior and embedding that behavior into our decision-making process.

I segregate waste at home so it can be properly disposed of. Keep lights and electrical appliances off when not in use. Use tumblers and avoid water bottles. Buy products only from companies that are socially and environmentally responsible and ethical. Choose to walk or take public transport whenever possible.

Essentially, whenever I make decisions, I always take sustainability into account and choose the more sustainable option.

🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

How the technology we've built saved a life and prevented numerous occurrences of asthma, rhinitis and various types of allergies both in the home and in offices.

🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?‍

Sustainability, climate and environment. The world needs it now, and it can't be delayed any further.

💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Be patient. Real estate is slow in adopting new technology, and building deeptech/hardware is difficult.

🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?

Food. Everything from how ingredients should be sliced, to the mise en place, to the sequence of cooking the ingredients of a dish, to bringing out more flavor from each ingredient, to creating texture and balancing flavors when you put the dish together, and to the final plating of a dish to take your eyes and palate on a journey of flavor.
