Gabriel Angelo De los Reyes is the Co-founder and COO of On Demand Deals (ODD), an asset lite quick commerce company building cloud convenience stores that deliver anything you want or need in minutes. Before ODD, he was Head of Operations at etaily.

👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

My job is to make sure that we provide the best experiences to our customers and franchisees. I do this through my roles in product, operations, and finance. The two questions I always try to answer are the ff:

i. Are we supporting them to the best of our abilities now?

ii. How can we support them better?

🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

I have never technically been in the HR department, but I have set up three different internship programs in three different companies. One was only for the business segment I was in, but the other two were for the whole organization. It's just fun for me to mentor people and aid in their growth.

🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

I'm so tempted to say launching ODD or Shopee Xpress, but my answer is how I have positively influenced the people I have worked with. It's all I really want to do. I want to help as many and as deeply as I can. Seeing people grow during and after their stints give me the energy to work like crazy day in and day out.

🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?

Quick e-commerce. This is the space ODD is in, and I just need to make sure that I am always updated with the latest developments in the space to know if we need to make any adjustments operationally and/or strategically.

💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Learn as much as you can about all aspects of e-commerce. You need to have a solid holistic foundation of the industry, especially your focus market. Everything is interconnected, and you need to know how they are connected.

🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?

I can talk about the San Antonio Spurs, my favorite sports team, for hours. I just love how they created a winning dynasty by cultivating the right culture.
