👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
I wear many hats and do many things. I'm continuously pitching, finding the gaps, and going out of balance with the rest of my life... and I occasionally freak out. I know a little about a lot.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
I've worked longer in Southeast Asia than anywhere else.
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
I feel that's an impossible answer - there have been many great points and many low points. Great points are often great for different reasons - which doesn't make them less great, just different. Ask me again in 30 years.
🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?
I would think with most - AI. It has so much power to make a material step change in efficiency for almost all disciplines and user experiences. That said, just like crypto, we're going to have to suffer with false starts and fake AI in the process, so learning to filter and apply the right tools at the correct times will be critical.
💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
The travel industry seems to enjoy to beat its self up - which is strange coming from the marketing professional services which seem to enjoy congratulating themselves all the time. Ignore the noise and focus on your users.
🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?
Education — I'm a relatively new dad (2y/o and 4y/o), so this has become more important to me than in the past. I'm fascinated that the design of the education system, for the majority of the planet, is based on a design and constraints from the 1800s.
🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?
I always like some stand-up comedy like Russel Howard, as we all should have time to laugh.
🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?
Cookies and cream
