Ice Breakers

Ice Breakers with Kee Min Chin (co-founder and CEO, P.UP)

July 15, 2025

Kee Min Chin is the co-founder and CEO of P.UP, a smart, mobile energy delivery platform bringing clean power anywhere it is  needed, starting with EVs and now scaling across sectors.

Worried your EV will run out of juice? P.UP will deliver the power you need. Book and a fast charger will arrive to give you that extra juice.

They operate in Singapore, Malaysia, and even markets like the Philippines with their partnership with Ayala Motors’ AC Mobility.

👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

I lead a tech company that brings clean energy directly to electric vehicles and other users—like construction/mining sites, outdoor events, and even emergency services—without needing fixed power stations. Think of us like a mobile energy delivery platform, similar to how food or groceries get delivered, but for electricity.

As CEO, I guide the overall vision, build partnerships with automakers and governments, raise funds, grow our team, and make sure we’re solving real-world problems in a smart, scalable way.

I also make sure that what we do is both good for the environment and inclusive, creating jobs and impact across the region.

In short, I build, market, and sell hopes and dreams.

🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

Most people assume power (EV charging, etc) means plugging into a wall.

They’d be surprised to know we are pioneering a mobile, on-demand energy delivery model that reshapes how cities, logistics fleets, and even governments think about infrastructure.

🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

The launch of Grab Malaysia's Airport EV Taxis and EV Lounge. P.UP is a key enabler to convince drivers to adopt EVs by guaranteeing zero downtime.

I'm very proud of our P.UP Team for being a key catalyst for propelling mass EV adoption in Malaysia's transport ecosystem, despite being a young 3-year-old startup.

🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?‍

Smart cities and impact startups.

I believe that these encompass the finest of the human will for efficiency, survival, and the betterment of the ecosystem as a whole.

💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Never stop trying and reinventing.

🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?

Food.

🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?

Star Wars.

🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?

Cherry Jubilee! I can eat a whole tub at one go.

FYI. We've edited this interview for clarity.
