Ice Breakers

Ice Breakers with Lennise Ng

July 27, 2022

Lennise Ng is the Co-founder and CEO of Dropee. They're a Malaysian B2B marketplace that connects SMEs to brands and distributors, and they raised a $7M Series A last year.

👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

I help build local businesses to be the heart of their local communities. I do so by connecting local mom-and-pop shops to the right products, at the right price, and with the right suppliers.

🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

A close friend encouraged me to take afternoon naps, so I found them very invigorating when I started taking them. A quick 10-15 minute snooze does wonders to refresh my mind.

🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

Being appointed as UNCTAD eTrade for Women Southeast Asia Advocate. I'm extremely humbled and excited to use this opportunity to empower more women in tech and traditional businesses to go digital #eTrade.

🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?

SME digital financing, particularly credit/invoice financing. Many mom-and-pop shops today can't build enough credibility to get direct financing support from banks and/or suppliers. And ironically, these businesses require cashflow the most.

💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?

Be ready to do a lot of introspective work, and remember to stay true to your "why."

🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?

Food & music. OK, that's two 'cause I can't pick one.

🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?

The Godfather (Movie) and Sherlock (TV show)!

🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?

Valrhona Chocolate
