Parith Thiengtham is the co-founder and CEO of Thailand's Edsy, a platform for online English social clubs. Before Edsy, he worked briefly with 500 Global and Golden Gate Ventures while at business school.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
Creating small-group English classes that bring kids on virtual adventures, teach them how to become TikTok stars and how they can advocate for good causes like Greta Thunberg, etc.
Also, assembling a superstar team of passionate teachers who share the company's mission to groom future global citizens.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
It's about making after-school classes fun and engaging so that kids won't argue with their parents when forced to take English tuition. Parents love us for saving them from headaches!
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Probably that I have been fortunate to meet founders of great EdTech companies like Outschool, VIPKid, Crimson Education, LingoAce, etc., that I respected and studied before jumping into this industry. Some even became our most helpful sounding boards.
🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?
Generative AI and how we can apply that to the future of learning
💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
It's not very easy if your goal is to help solve inequality (we often hear jokes that it's much easier to flourish in this industry by just following the inequality), so you've got to make sure that you are really passionate about it otherwise, you may be distracted by other sexier industries.
🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?
Thai politics (beats House of Cards, I'm telling you)
🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?
Not gonna lie. I'm a big fan of Gossip Girl!
🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?
Lemon sherbet
