Rajesh Raikwar is the co-founder and CTO of Volopay. Before Volopay, he was a Senior Software Engineer at India's MoneySmart Group.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
Well, I lead the tech and product teams at Volopay. My job is to ensure the smooth running of the Volopay platform.
Every day, I get involved in planning new features and reducing operational inefficiencies with the help of technology.
And since we are growing rapidly, dealing with scalability issues is one primary area I spend the most time on.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
I, along with my team of just nine members, currently handle millions of dollars of transactions every month.
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
It has to be Volopay, though there is still a long way to go. We started the company at the onset of Covid and were able to scale it to a 150+ member team to date in just a two-year period.
🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?
Actually, two things: the race to become a truly global fintech player and the growing tech startup scene in Africa.
I believe only technology can help bridge the inequality gap.
💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
Don't go after money in the initial years of your career. Always optimize for knowledge and different kind of experience — money will definitely follow. By hook or by crook, start or get into any startup as soon as possible.
🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?
The state of education in India and speculations about what could be done better.
🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?
Mystic River and Seinfeld!
🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?
Oddly enough, I like the Custard Apple ice cream flavor.
