Raymond Christopher is the co-founder and CTO of Delman, an Indonesian data management startup that raised a $1.6M seed in 2020. Before Delman, he was a Software Engineer at Google in Mountain View.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
I help companies to organize their data better and produce data-driven output with the minimum amount of resources.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
We are (probably) the only Indonesian company that's building a local, technical product to enable companies to be data-driven.
While others are having challenges using foreign products, we take pride in our fast, high-quality implementation combined with our easy-to-use platform and capable tech team.
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Getting featured in Forbes 30 under 30 Indonesia & Asia 2021. It's relatively early given the stage of our company at the time, but we are grateful to be given some spotlight to show what we are building to society at large.
🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?
Due to the relevance to my work at Delman, I intensively observe the progress and impact of no/low-code software and data-related technology (such as LakeHouse).
Personally, I love to teach the new generations, so I always keep tabs on the edtech space globally.
💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
The best way to learn to be a founder is to become one, and working at a startup for a year feels like working for five years everywhere else.
🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?
Strategy, Games.
🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?
Star Wars, some thriller/psychological movies and Christopher Nolan movies.
🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?
Not a big fan of ice cream, but Pistachio is my first pick.
