Rensyn Hooi is the General Manager of Acme Technology, a Singapore-based bank integration platform for businesses.
Acme's software enables you to connect directly with your bank of choice to automate all your finance and payment processes.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
Helping businesses integrate with their banks directly for reconciliation and money movement.
Today, it takes a lot of time and engineering effort for companies to integrate with their banks just to receive bank statements or real-time credit notifications, or to collect or payout funds via banking rails.
Our job is to make that whole experience much faster and easier by creating a unified tech platform for our customers.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
Though we operate just like any early staged startup does (think: doing anything and everything, being heavily biased to action), we need to be sensitive to how we navigate and position ourselves to large organizations including our banking partners and large customers.
Flexing these very different muscles within a day is as tough as context-switching!
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
I don't think there has been one biggest moment, but multiple ones across my different careers, including:
🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?
Payments and bank integrations are naturally a space that I'm interested in.
Not just because it affects my work directly, but because there is just so much complexity in this space that no one has been able to solve holistically.
💼 What advice would you give someone starting in your industry?
Be very, very curious, and take nothing for granted. Technologies can change in the flash of light, but at the same time, macro things like policies can take a long time to move.
Be biased to action, but still learn to be patient when you need to be.
🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?
Hawker food and where to find the best ones.
🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?
The Prestige! I've watched it many times and it never fails to blow my mind.
🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?
Earl grey lavender.
