Sandy Goh is the Marketing Director at Glints, a leading talent community and platform in Southeast Asia with a mission to help 120 million young professionals in this region realize their human potential.
Glints is a Series D startup that has raised a total of $80M from investors like DCM Ventures, Lavender Hill Capital, and PERSOL Holdings.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
I look after everything marketing and communications at Glints, across businesses and markets.
This goes from corporate branding to talent user acquisition for our platform growth to employer lead generation for sales. Basically, at this stage of growth, we have to be a Swiss Army knife.
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
I am not in the role I originally interviewed for. I originally applied to be a senior product marketing manager at Glints, to support lead generation for our B2B business and business. This was definitely up my alley, having led B2B marketing and teams across Southeast Asia at PropertyGuru.
When I sat down to talk to Oswald, our CEO, he asked about my career goals which included my aspiration to move to the next step in my career, which was to grow into sales and business management. I wanted to learn enough to eventually lead a business unit or start a business of my own.
Oswald ended up customizing a JD for me—this really put into action our vision at Glints, which is to help realize human potential.
I was offered Head of Product Marketing to tap into my existing strengths and experience. I've learned so much since then.
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
The biggest highlight so far is being offered the opportunity to step up and lead all of marketing at Glints.
The highlight is truly what I’ve learned so far, including brand marketing, B2C marketing, teaming up with the leadership team, and managing creative, content, and performance marketing teams.
This has helped me grow professionally and personally as a marketer and leader.
Additionally, our business strategy has evolved, and we want to support all types of young professionals in the talent ecosystem.
In the end, we want to be known as the leading platform and community for Southeast Asia talent. We’re now working on a refresh of our brand so as to have it more inclusive of wider talent audiences, expanding beyond young white-collar professionals. I am excited to bring it to life this year!
We are also working on a digital brand campaign to launch our newest and defining feature in Indonesia that will change the way talent experiences job search. Look out for it, especially on social media!
🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?
I'm closely following developments in the generative AI space, particularly how might it help not just increase the productivity of my team, but also enable better experiences for our customers and users, especially for fast-paced, fast-growing startups like us that aim to operate in a lean way.
We’re already currently benefiting from generative AI in our content and creative development work.
💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
It is important to recognize and cater to those differences through hyper-localized product and marketing strategies.
The culture, behavior, and needs of talent are incredibly unique in every SEA market and between demographics.
🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?
The importance of building brand advocacy from within the organization.
The organization’s employees are the biggest, nearest and dearest brand assets and influencers.
To recognize this, and to actively invest in this opportunity takes effort whilst its impact is not directly measurable, thereby easily missed, de-prioritized, or not done well enough.
🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?
My current favorite TV show is The Empress on Netflix. I have just finished watching Season 1, and am looking forward to Season 2.
First came across Queen Sisi when I visited the Sisi Museum in Vienna years back and had been intrigued by this part of history and her. To see her and parts of the palace we visited brought somewhat to life in a period drama, albeit dramatized, feels like a walk back in history.
🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?
Pistachio gelato! Nutty and fragrant, and since it’s a healthy type of nut, it’s probably a healthier type of ice cream.
