Spencer Yang is the Co-founder and CEO of Gomu. Before Gomu, he worked in Product at Coinbase and was VP of Growth, Operations and Revenue at CoinMarketCap.
👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
We provide infrastructure for developers to help them build better (i.e., get JPEGs to load when users want to view them).
🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
I don't look at crypto/NFT prices every day. Crypto is an industry that is often volatile due to price action from external sources. It's important to stay focused, tune out the short-term noise and focus on the roadmap and vision.
🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
Building the current team at Gomu (still a work in progress). Enjoying every day of the journey.
Milestones such as acquisitions, shipping product at public companies are definitely glorious. But to me, nothing beats working with a championship team of talented individuals.
🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?
Web3 and metaverse gaming. Will like to see how improved economic mechanisms and more immersive experiences can enhance player engagement.
💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?
Follow the developer and builder activities. Join startup teams, DAOs and communities that match your intellectual curiosities.
🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?
Crypto industry history and personalities.
🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show?
One Piece. Might have inspired the name of the company.
🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?
Mango sorbet — sour, sweet and refreshing, just like the startup journey itself.
