Bye bye, electronic waste! Remind is a sustainable e-waste processing startup based in Indonesia. And they just raised $1.3M.

  • Here’s a scoop. Remind is short for Recycling Materials for Indonesia.

Investor check. Bali Investment Club and BEENEXT led the round, while Spiral Ventures also joined in.

☹️ The e-waste problem

Currently, e-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world. But it’s not just the volume that’s the problem.

Only a small percentage of e-waste is formally collected and recycled.

  • The rest? Unprocessed. Or worse, informally recycled.
  • Informal e-waste recycling activities like open burning can have adverse health effects, especially to women and children who often collect and recycle e-waste informally.

😎 More on Remind

Remind collects e-waste (medical and mobile devices, cables, household appliances, and more) from companies and organizations and then sorts, recovers, and recycles them.

  • They then sell the recovered e-waste (like C chips, copper scrap, iron/steel scraps, and printed circuit board scraps) to e-waste smelters, scavengers, traders, and recyclers.

Run the numbers! Launched in 2023, the startup has reportedly managed 3.5K tons of e-waste. Oh, and they’re aiming to manage 6K tons by the end of the year.

🔥 What’s next?

They’ll scale their physical infrastructure and boost their capacity to recover metal from discarded electronics.

  • Remind’s goal is to become a fully-fledged smelter.
