We’re hooked on JALA. This Indonesian shrimp startup offers end-to-end solutions for shrimp farmers to level up productivity and sustainability in shrimp farming. And they just raised a $13.1M Series A!

  • Founded in 2017, their app is used by 20K users. Oh, and they also claim to have monitored shrimp across 35.3K ponds!

Investor check. Intudo Ventures led the round, while Sinar Mas Digital Ventures, Mirova, and Meloy Fund joined in.

🍤 All about shrimp

JALA gives farmers access to farm assistance, farm financing, high-quality supplies and inputs, and marketplace services to help them bring their harvests to market!

  • Their app allows users to record, monitor, and analyze their shrimp farm with their real-time data and connected equipment.
  • Shrimp feed costs a pretty penny. But through JALA’s farm credit scoring service, farmers can get access to affordable financing options.

Fresh! Farmers of all sizes can tap into JALA’s streamlined system to bring their harvest to market—complete with fast and secure payment options.

🪝 Just getting started

They’re going to scale up operations across key regions in Indonesia, including Sumatera, Sulawesi, and Nusa Tenggara.

  • Plus, they’ll also work on their app to feature more in-depth predictions for cultivation performance, water quality, shrimp disease protection, and more.
