Japan’s Genesia Ventures closes new fund to back Asian seed-stage startups

For Asia! Genesia Ventures is a Japan-based VC firm focused on backing pre-seed and seed startups in Japan, SEA, and India. 

  • Now, they’ve just closed the final close of their Fund IV at $113M!
  • FYI. Genesia has offices in Tokyo, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City, and Bengaluru.

LP check. The fund is mostly backed by domestic and international institutional investors and financial institutions. 

🌼 What the fund

The firm says they will be more selective with the number of investments they make, so they can invest more deeply in each company. 

  • They did not say how many investments they plan to make. 
  • Founder and General Partner Soichi Tajima said that the firm will back founders “operating at the intersection of transformational changes and pursuing opportunities with the potential to create significant societal impact.” 

🇻🇳 Eyes on Vietnam

As one of their key markets in SEA, Genesia has launched Genesia Orbit Vietnam, a founder growth platform that offers workshops, knowledge-sharing sessions, and community events for early-stage founders. 

They’ve backed Vietnamese startups like: 

  • B2B pharmaceutical platform Buymed (Series B)
  • BNPL service provider Fundiin (Series A)
  • B2B food sourcing platform KAMEREO
