Keepin' it (Sep)Pure: $12M for environmentally-friendly nanofilters

Put your chemistry hats on! Today, we're talking about chemical separation. Oh, and before you skip this — it's way more important than you think!

  • While many global industries, from food to pharma, rely on it, it's super harmful since it's powered by a ton of heat energy, usually from gas or coal.

🦸🏻‍♂️ SepPure's saving the day

This Singapore-based startup just raised a $12M Series A led by SOSV to build an environmentally-friendly alternative for industrial chemical separation.

Investor check. Anji Microelectronics, RealTech Fund, SEEDS Capital, EPS Ventures and more also joined in!

🤨 Why it matters

The chemical separation process burns through massive amounts of energy, making these processes one of the world's largest silent polluters.

  • Way too much. FYI, chemical separation contributes an insane 15% to the world's energy consumption and 10% of global Co2 emissions.
  • At the same time, companies are feeling the heat and are pressured to move away from gas and coal processes like these.

🤓 What they do

They build physical nanofilters made of hollow fiber and a membrane that filters through pores only one nanometer in diameter.

  • High pressure filters the liquid and only allows specific molecules to pass through, separating chemicals at the molecular level — without using heat and reducing energy consumption by 90%.

This tech isn't unique. But beyond just being environmentally friendly, their solutions are more durable, efficient, cost-effective and compact. Best of all? They can be used across multiple industries — setting them apart from the competition.

🔥 What's next?

They're finishing up construction of their first filter production facility, which is in Singapore! They're also set to start implementing their solutions with several industrial projects with big industry players — their first commercial deployment is already in progress.

  • Their pipeline includes over 50% of the world's top 10 largest vegetable oil producers.
  • Want to work together? They're already working on expansion plans since they're expecting growing demand.
