Another fund is coming! Vertex Venture Holdings has announced that they have raised over $900M in the initial fundraising round of its latest fund, the Vertex Master Fund III.

  • Set up in 2021, the first round was completed back in June.
  • The company’s $1B target fund is set to be completed “in the coming months”.

Who’s got the money? Some $80M came from Japanese investors, namely Marubeni, the Development Bank of Japan, Risa Partners, and an institutional investor.

  • Vertex entered the Japanese market in 2020 and made their first investment in AI startup, Alt.
  • Their previous fund raised $730M in 2019.

➕ Run the numbers!

Vertex Venture Holdings is the VC arm of Temasek Holdings—Singapore’s state-owned investment firm.

They typically invest in early-stage startups in various sectors.

Apart from investing in IPO-ed companies like Grab, they also funded:

  • 📈  PatSnap, an AI-powered intelligence platform that just reached unicorn status.
  • 🪙 Nium, a global fintech provider offering cross-border payments.
  • 🎣 Aruna, an agritech that connects Indonesian fishermen to local and global supply chains.
  • 🤳 TipTip, which helps Indonesian creators monetize their content.

That’s a lot! All in all, they’ve got $6B in assets under management.

🌳 The rest of the family

The Vertex network (there are 6 of them!) has over 300 active companies in its portfolio.

  • They have 5 early-stage funds specializing in SEA/India, China, the US, Israel, and healthcare companies.
  • They also have a growth-stage fund for later-stage startups.

On their own? According to their website, the firms raise and manage funds independently.
