Traffic startup ITC raises $5M to get the green light for SEA expansion

How many hours do we lose just by getting stuck in traffic? Everyone knows traffic in SEA is terrible, so Israeli startup ITC just raised a $5M Series A to expand to SEA and solve traffic in the region!

  • They can reduce up to 30% of traffic jams by connecting to existing CCTVs at junctions — without installing additional devices.
  • They manage millions of cars weekly across the US, Brazil, Australia, Israel and Europe!

Investor check. Champel Capital, Mobilitech Capital and Earth Venture Capital joined in for the round!

🚙 Why it matters

Reducing traffic jams don't just improve our well-being (no more rushing and stressing out!) — they also help us save time and money.

  • So much lost value. The ADB has found that traffic in SEA makes us lose about $100B a year.
  • Commuters in Bangkok spend 66 minutes daily stuck in traffic, while those in Manila have it worse at 77 minutes daily.

And it's not just for you. Less traffic is great for the environment too! Did you know emissions increase up to 40% when cars are stuck at traffic lights compared to when they're in motion?

  • One of the best ways to fight against climate change is to improve the climate-friendliness of things we do daily — like commutes to work.

🛑 Stopping traffic

While solving traffic sounds crazy, they can do it. How? They predict traffic patterns to prevent traffic congestion before it even happens.

  • This is done by developing computer vision and AI/ML models.

Their algorithms claim to be sensitive enough to correctly identify and track 99% of vehicles, buses, ambulances and pedestrians, which can help them understand how they may behave.

🚦 In action

So, how does this all come into play?

Optimization. Based on their predictions, traffic lights can be optimized in real-time to prevent gridlocks and traffic jams.

Pedestrian first. They enforce municipal-level traffic policies like public transport and bicycle and pedestrian prioritization!

The right priorities. They can identify public transportation and emergency vehicles like ambulances to allow them to pass quickly through traffic.

No more accidents. Their collision detection system also helps prevent road accidents and lower the number of deaths on SEA's roads.
