Carina Lukito is the co-founder and CEO of Little Joy, an Indonesian mom and baby brand on a mission to ensure that kids are healthy in their first 1K days.ย
They recently raised their Series A round.ย
โ
๐๐ผ How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?
Indonesia's fast-growing mom-and-baby brand provides a holistic approach to optimizing childrenโs development and growth.ย
โ
๐ง What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?
For me personally, with a job that requires a lot of social exposure and relation, I actually like being home with my ice cream and Netflix for the job.
A lot of people were also quite surprised that I'm not a mom or even married yet.
โ
๐ What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?
The biggest highlight so far, in my opinion, is when the users see the positive impacts of using the product.ย
It does give me utter satisfaction to read testimonials from our MomsJoy communities or in marketplace reviews on how they see changes in their kids (on their weight, healthiness, appetite, etc).ย
For example, one best highlights of my career was two weeks ago when we had this offline community event with Promptus Clinic in BSD, Jakarta.ย
One mom approached me and said she was very thankful that we created Little Joy. Her kid used to go in and out of the hospital 3 to 4 times a month.ย
After consuming Little Joy on a daily basis, the visit was lessened to once a month.ย
It even touched one of our community specialists who was about to resign so much that she canceled her resignation afterward. In short, the biggest highlight of my career has always been how my creation has built a meaningful impact on a bigger society.ย
โ
๐ What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?โ
Consumer goods. As we are aware, the GDP in Indonesia on average is around $4K which will be in a consumptive era up until it reaches around $10K.ย
Within this era, along with the rising of middle-class income, we can see the trend in the next five years or so to be in a consumptive industry with a transformative buying power toward a more health-conscious decision.ย
โ
๐ผ What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry?ย
Failures are temporary; successes are also temporary. What matters is our willingness to start the first step.
โ
๐ฃ What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours?ย
Psych-thriller movies and books.
โ
๐ฅ What's your favorite movie/TV show?ย
Modern Family has always had a spot in my heart for some unwinding time after work.
โ
๐จ What's your go-to ice cream flavor?โ
Matcha and Earl Grey, Iโm old-fashioned.
