Ethan Ang is the co-founder and CEO of NodeFlair, a career advancement platform for tech talents in Asia.

NodeFlair currently operates in Singapore and Vietnam and recently raised US$2M in Series A funding.

👋🏼 How would you explain your job to someone outside tech?

We provide payslip-verified salary data and detailed career information for talents to make better career decisions!

🧐 What's something about you or your job that would surprise us?

I was crazy close to becoming a teacher. If the government had given me a scholarship, I would have joined the education ministry and would not be writing this now.

🏆 What has been the biggest highlight of your career so far?

I love to build! I've ventured into many projects since young but mostly failed. I learned early in my career that ideas are cheap and execution is everything.

I'm fortunate to be able to build with great leaders like ShopBack's Henry. 

I was entrusted with setting up tech teams from scratch for ShopBack in Taiwan and Vietnam, which was quite a feat for an intern to take on solo.

Today, I remain extremely proud of what we've built as a team here at NodeFlair. 

We still don't get things right all the time, but what has been consistently fulfilling is seeing the huge growth of the team and myself.

🔍 What's a startup trend or space you're watching this year?‍

Asia is home to many strong technical talents, and we’re seeing rapidly growing interest from US and EU companies in setting up technology hubs here. 

We believe tech professionals and companies deserve greater access to reliable, accurate data and NodeFlair is a win-win platform for both job seekers and employers in the fast-growing tech sector.

💼 What advice would you give someone starting out in your industry? 

Be clear about why you're doing it (probably it's advice to all industries).

🗣 What's one thing you can keep talking about for hours? 

Physics.

🎥 What's your favorite movie/TV show? 

Comedies that are south of what most would consider ‘sophisticated’: We Are the Millers, The Dictator.

🍨 What's your go-to ice cream flavor?‍

Yuzu.
